Many webmasters resorted to wrapping static content in an ASP page and doing a binary write of the content after authorization. Customers may need to download content after a hard drive crash, or gain access to updates and patches. Creating a unique username and password-protected area for each request is time consuming and requires constant maintenance to remove content after a given date.
